Happy Friday and happy June!
What I’ve been reading:
Scattered Minds by Gabor Mate. I've read it before but seeing it through a different lens this time now that I'm off antidepressants.
What I’ve been eating:
I tried this viral recipe and it is SO yummy. It’s viral for a reason!
What I’ve been watching:
Succession…The FINALE! I have to say, I felt very done with the Roy's after that 90 minute episode. Thoughts?
What’s in my cart:
This book, hopefully to inspire my green thumb.
One thing I’m looking forward to…
Summer officially starting for my kids! Have you started a summer bucket list? I’d love to hear what’s on it!
Reader Question:
Do you have a recipe you always follow when decorating your mantel?
Kate’s Answer:
There are two ways I like to approach mantles. One is to let a large piece of artwork fill the space. The other is to approach it as a place to display interesting objects, collections or framed pictures and post cards. There are plenty of fun examples out there, but I specifically love the way Laura Jackson and Lucy Williams approach their fireplace mantles.
Here are some tips to help you design a better mantle:
Start with a focal point: Choose a piece of art, a mirror, or a large decorative item as a focal point for your mantle. This item should be the anchor for the rest of your decor.
Create balance: Arrange items in groups of odd numbers, such as three or five, to create visual interest. For example, you could create a grouping of candles, vases, or picture frames.
Vary heights: Varying the height of your decor items adds depth and dimension to your mantle. Use candlesticks or books to elevate shorter items.
Mix textures: Mix different textures and materials to add interest to your mantle. Try combining wood, metal, glass, and ceramics.
Add something green: Plants and flowers can add a fresh, natural touch to your mantle. Consider adding a vase of fresh flowers or a potted plant.
I can’t stop thinking about this home I saw on Instagram earlier this week. It looks so peaceful.
