What is House Call?

House Call was born out of the desire to delve deeper into the motivations behind why we work tirelessly on our homes, how personal touches add meaning, and ultimately, why it matters.

Through this project, I've found that sometimes a well-timed reminder from someone you trust may be just what is needed to make difficult decisions when designing for yourself. I’m not here to give advice as an expert, just a critical eye and the willingness to share my take on the messy stuff, the spilled milk, the ideas I wish I hadn’t abandoned, and the things I thought mattered more than they did.

House Call is more than just a newsletter. This is a love letter to my favorite canvas for creative expression, and a reminder that our homes are deeply personal. I’ll discuss my struggles and learnings in my own home, answer design questions from readers, and share what’s inspired and changed me along the way.

Why subscribe?

Helping people create beautiful spaces that reflect who they are matters to me. Deeply. It's more than a passion for me—it's a mission. I've written (here, here and here) about how designing my spaces has been a radical act of self-love even when I didn't realize it. It's a message I want to shout from the mountaintops.

This medium feels like it has the most potential for that type of community.

A little push to get off the algorithm. To learn a little bit. To talk like friends in a cozier space.

What I've come to realize is we shouldn't let others dictate how we do the things we love—whether what we love is how we make a living or not. Let popular opinion define your bullseye of success, and you'll rarely hit the target.

If you still have questions about what to expect from this space, you can read more on the about page.

To all who are here, thank you! This is just the beginning.
