I have cycled between straightening my hair and wearing it curly for 15 years or so, after straightening it manically starting in college. I find it remarkably freeing, despite the time it takes to air dry (ironically, since I have fine hair it's much faster to blow it dry (badly) than air dry!). I love reveling in damp days or unexpected rain, instead of trying to protect myself from moisture. The State of The Hair and straightening of hair and maintaining the straightness of hair has been a huge theme of my mom's life/our lives with her; she's an amazing swimmer but she stopped putting her head in the water when she started straightening her hair in the 90s, and I didn't want to let my hair control me, if that makes sense? There is definitely a psychological angle to what initially seems like an aesthetic choice. Happy to chat curly-hair faves if you want any new things to try!
Yes! Straightening is just one more thing to maintain. It's more than just liking the look of it; there's freedom in moving with the natural movement of things <3
I used to work at MOA and hear you - it is such an overwhelming place full of rushing. Last year, I actually went to the mall for the first time in two years (having worked there for three) and had the laziest day - I walked slowly, I had a drink and appetizer by the window at TC Grill, and I gave into the adrenaline and got my ears pierced. I don't think I'll ever be able to recreate that experience. I'm glad you got to enjoy some of the peace!
I’ve never heard of Perfect Days and it looks like my idea of a perfect film. Will be watching tonight! Thank you for sharing, Kate!
ENJOY!

a totally different experience when you're not there to consume or optimize!
